The Valcamonica Valley is one of the largest valleys in the central Alps. It is particularly famous for its stone carvings which represent one of the largest collections of prehistoric petroglyphs in the world and were recognized by UNESCO in 1979. 300,000 petroglyphs are on many surfaces spread across the valley, but they are mainly concentrated in the areas of Darfo Boario Terme and Capo di Ponte.
However, the valley also has an incredible artistic heritage housed in the many churches that can be found in the area. Architecture, frescos, paintings and sculptures created by important artists from various periods affect the innermost feelings of everyone who visits them.
